Here's Teag, my room mate's old cat. He passed away last year but he's still a beautiful cat.

He's always been missing his left arm, no idea how or when, but he'd still snuggle and play and hang out.

Cat pictures for Tuesday, likely cat eye contact

Baby Garak on that same day.

Cat pictures for Tuesday, likely cat eye contact

I'll be posting pictures of my cats all day. I don't have a name for doing this, I'm just going to do it because my therapist asked me to for them and I might as well post them on here too.

First up is the first picture taken of these two kids. Bashir with his eyes glued shut due to an eye infection, and his brother photo bombing.

Help needed, please boost

So... I'm in need of some help.

I got laid off from my well paying IT job in March and was unable to find anything for the rest of the year. I used the time to study and try to find a job as a bike mechanic. I succeeded, but I also met an amazing woman and we got married in September.

But I cannot support two people on a bike mechanic's salary in Portland. I just can't. I got paid today and it's not even enough to cover rent. Even if it were, I'm without money for much of anything for the next two weeks. My wife has an EBT card but stretching that for two people is difficult.

I have 18 years of experience in information technology. I need a side job. I'd prefer something part time so I can keep doing bike wrenching so I don't want to die after working 40+ in an IT job full time, so I'm hoping maybe someone knows someone who has a small business and just needs someone to help with simple stuff, user creation, backup management, stuff like that, 10ish hours a week. I might be able to go half time at the bike shop but I really like my job and don't want to give up on the dream just yet.

Thanks for reading and hopefully boosting.

Pdxpol, protests, statues

Y'all ever heard about bronze disease? It's awful! Poor unsuspecting statues are near impossible to save if they are recovered and reinstalled where they previously we're displayed! Would be a true shame if statues of, oh I dunno, Teddy Roosevelt or Abraham Lincoln were too contract such a thing!

Sexual violence mention, language semantics, be better

Bad: telling someone to or saying someone should "get fucked" because that's implying that person should be raped.

Good: "go fuck yourself"/"they can go fuck themselves" because then at least they're leaving entirely and just masturbating.

Apparently this needs to be said.

Thinking about either 1) leaving Masto or 2) going instance only.

Got passed over for the job. And honestly? It's a sense of relief. I could have done it, I just... Really didn't want to. And I think that came through to them.

Really solidifies my resolve to get out of IT.

BBC, transmisia, negative

So, a couple weeks back, the BBC's LBGT+ support page quietly dropped three trans-specific helplines:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/1nYWPTdMtKStFL2ztx1SV11/information-and-support-lgbt-issues

At the time, the reason was unknown even to the corporation's internal Pride Network.

Now, we hear the reason has been officially given - confirmation that they were 'dropped due to “audience complaints” relating to the “increasingly contested issues relating to trans issues and children”'.

https://www.pinknews.co.uk/2020/07/30/bbc-pride-trans-hate-campaign-mermaids-action-line-transphobia-gender-trust/

Fuck that with a rusty chainsaw. Removal of those support lines gives clear support to those who *don't need those helplines*, and unambiguously aligned management against trans people. It's not coincidental that with the ramping up of TERFs in the press has come a sharp rise in harassment and violent attacks against trans people; either the BBC supports that, or they oppose it.

Their complaints page:

Searching for remote jobs because fuck it why not.

Every ad I see lists that it's remote but in the description they always say "based in the office in [location]" and "requires regular client site visits".

I haaaaaaaaate this

With the State pushing to criminalize even rudimentary stances against fascism + white supremacy, its important to remember that these ideas have a broad appeal. ICYMI, here's our interview from last year on antifascism in Major League Soccer fandom. https://itsgoingdown.org/three-arrows-down-how-soccer-supporters-built-an-antifascist-space-within-the-sport/

Capitalist dystopia. They Live spoiler

At what point does a company decide their brand identity will be defined by following the horrible dystopia of They Live, just substituting "OBEY" and "CONSUME" with "EAT"?

New fish in the tank! A male pearl guarami to balance out the two females already in here, and ten coral red platys! Everyone seems to be doing well, the thick lipped sunset guarami (can't get a good picture) keeps trying to hang out with the platys like the awkward kid on the playground.

"The officers, and right-wing journalists and politicians have argued that this is an ongoing violent riot, but the reality is that these protests have been largely peaceful. On the evening of July 17, there was no provocation that was visible, and on many nights, the excuse federal agents give for attacking the crowds are that people are throwing empty water bottles or insults at the police. On July 22, Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler, who has been heavily denounced by protesters for his apparent unwillingness to stop the police, was hit by teargas and told reporters he saw no provocation and called the federal officers’ behavior “urban warfare.” On July 25, while protesters had increased their militancy and commitment to pushing back on barriers like the fence, these actions amounted to little more than loud protest tactics, yet were met by crushing force. The issue of “protester violence” is largely one of a right-wing construct.... The violence of the federal officers, ... sending protesters to the hospital ... feels like a false equivalency." https://truthout.org/articles/if-we-dont-want-armed-feds-occupying-our-cities-we-must-hit-the-streets/ Take that, William Barr!

I am unshowered, I haven't washed this dress in a week so I smell, I haven't been outside since yesterday, and I just had a job interview.

Shit is weird
